Understanding Entities

Entities are the building blocks of Legend. Every service, project, resource, and person in your organization is represented as an entity, and the relationships between them create your organizational knowledge graph.

Legend has three entity types:

  • Landmarks are the universal points of interest in your organization: services, projects, resources, events, documentation, vendors, and more.
  • People are individual contributors with expertise, titles, and team affiliations.
  • Teams are organizational units with hierarchical structure and members.

Together these three types cover everything you need to model your organization. Landmarks represent the “what”, people represent the “who”, and teams group people into organizational units that own and operate landmarks.

Entities do not exist in isolation. Relationships connect them into a navigable knowledge graph:

  • Landmarks can be owned by a team or a person
  • People belong to teams
  • Teams can own landmarks and can have parent-child hierarchies
